Can't Keep A Good Man Down

Some titles are handed to you. This one came straight back down the line from the man who inspired the song.

The Story

The song was inspired by a good USA mate of mine. We played a gig together in San Diego — the opening ceremony for the ASCRS, in the park in front of the San Diego Hilton, at dusk. It was an absolutely beautiful evening and a wonderful gig.

I contacted my mate a year or two later and he replied that he'd had a lung transplant six weeks previously — but he was doing so well that he'd just had his first game of golf yesterday.

I was astounded, and I wrote back to him: "You can't keep a good man down!" He instantly replied — "There's the title for your next song, Bob!" So I went and wrote the song.

It's a blues guitar riff-driven song, unique but classic sounding, with heavy gut-bucket electric slide guitar delivered with vocal swagger — a classic Chicago blues sound.

"You can't keep a good man down! — There's the title for your next song, Bob."
